Yesterday saw Dahab’s community market come to life, a great, social, vibrant life. It was held at the Lazy Camel cafe, the beach part of Sheikh Salem house and it was just an absolutely gorgeous venue and a beautiful day for it. It was organised by members of Women 4 Dahab, a new group of extremely proactive Dahab ladies (expats & Egyptians alike). Stalls included handmade upcycled items from Eid Crafts and kohl made by local Bedouin women, homemade bread (between me and Salma, the chocolate bread didn’t last too long…), photographs and prints by local artists, and bric-a-brac and second hand books and clothes. It was absolutely perfect for young kids too who spent most of the afternoon playing in the sand on the beach whilst mums nattered and browsed (and in my case ate too many homecooked biscuits…).

Another great Dahab event for Sunrise Lodge guests and all Dahab’s tourists and residents to enjoy – the organisers plan to make it a weekly event for Dahab residents to showcase their handicrafts and talents, make a wee bit of money and have a lovely day whilst doing so.
As we sat on the beach and the sun went down (and as the “supermoon” came up in preparation for its great show tonight) we all reflected that one of the best bits of the day was just mingling and chatting with other Dahab residents and visitors… It was one of the loveliest social events I can remember here.
